19 February 2025

In this session we:

  • explored the second of our three approaches to social change – Challenging Dominant Institutions
  • had a whistle stop tour of the history of Birmingham’s institutions
  • heard from Jake Hayman, author of ‘Wealth Unpublished’, as he shared his insights on extreme wealth
  • were joined Sean Farmelo from the Stirchley Co-operative Development, Kathy Hopkins from Save Birmingham, Karolina Medwecka from Birmingham City Council, and Debbie Pippard from Barrow Cadbury Trust. Each shared the ways in which they are challenging dominant institutions, whether that be from the outside – via campaigning, protesting and building alternatives – or from inside the institutions.
  • took time to think about what role EJB and we each play in challenging dominant institutions in Birmingham.
